Outside The United States

Unfortunately, we presently do not have the capacity to handle international book distribution.

Receiving Books Outside the Tri-State Area
If you are outside the New York Tri-State area and cannot pick up books from our Bronx warehouse, we would still like to accommodate you if possible.
Through the Books For Kids website, we are often contacted by people across the United States who want to donate books in their areas. Our goal is to match the supply of books with the need.
First, please fill out the application form and send it to us by mail or via fax. If your agency is approved, we will put you on a waiting list to receive books. When we hear of a prospective book donor in your vicinity, we will connect you.
If we succeed in arranging for you to get books, we ask that you send a thank you letter to the donor, and a copy to us. As the program grows, we reserve the right to establish a modest administrative fee.

GUIDELINES FOR RECEIVING BOOKS FROM THE BOOKS FOR KIDS FOUNDATION
The Books for Kids Foundation promotes literacy among all children with special emphasis on disadvantaged children and youth. Books for Kids places books in the hands of children, creates libraries and participates in reading initiatives within community-based organizations, social service agencies, schools and under-served institutions.
Books for Kids is very proud of how much we have accomplished since our founding in 1986. We've given away more than 5 million books, worth more than $45 million, to disadvantaged children, and we have created 38 children's libraries throughout New York City. We support the literacy programs of more than 270 agencies in the New York metropolitan area as well as hundreds of others throughout the United States. Books for Kids does not provide direct financial support to agencies.

ELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS
Eligible institutions include community-based family literacy programs, tutoring and mentoring programs, shelters for homeless families, day care centers, Head Start and After-School programs, hospitals, schools and camps. Applying agencies must provide a copy of their tax-exempt certificate.
In addition to providing children with books for use at the agency and/or to keep for their own, recipient agencies are expected to use BFK's book donations to actively promote literacy.
Applying organizations are asked to provide details of their agency and the children they serve with regard to age, diversity, income level and how they plan to use the books. Please see questionnaire attached. Correspondence can be mailed or faxed together with a tax exempt certificate to the address at the bottom of this page.
Books for Kids holds Warehouse Days at various times throughout the year. Agencies that meet BFK's criteria for book donations will be notified of upcoming warehouse days so they may be scheduled to come to the warehouse (located in the Brooklyn) and select books (You may be approved for a full book grant, which is 600 books per agency). Agencies must provide their own boxes, transport and labor to pick up books and load them into their own truck, van or car. Books for Kids will provide pallets and a pallet jack to move the books down to the loading dock. There is an administration fee per visit for each agency.
Recipient agencies are asked to acknowledge the book donations they receive from Books for Kids in writing and to include Books for Kids in their own media and in community publicity about their literacy program. Please furnish Books for Kids with copies of any publicity the book donation and literacy program has received.
