Little, Brown Will Publish Tina Fey Book
NY Observer, October 3, 2008
Earlier this week it was reported in the New York Post that Tina Fey had received an offer of $6 million to write a book.
Late this afternoon, according to a source with firsthand knowledge of the deal, she finalized an agreement with Little, Brown & Co. The book—which was reportedly pitched as a book of humorous essays in the style of Nora Ephron—will be edited by executive editor Reagan Arthur.
According to our source, part of Ms. Fey's deal with the publishing house involves a gift to the foundation Books for Kids that will help sponsor the building of six libraries for schools in under-served neighborhoods in New York.
No word yet on how much Ms. Fey ended up getting paid.
Ms. Fey's agent, Richard Abate of the Endeavor Talent Agency, declined to comment.

Open a Book and the World Opens
On Monday, October 20, 2008 we launched our Read-A-Thon city- and boro-wide with the NYC Public Schools at PS 165 in Manhattan. Craig Hatkoff, philanthropist, co-founder of Tribeca Film Festival, and author of Owen & Mzee, was among the participants in the kick-off. HarperCollins illustrator Brandon Dorman read from Halloween Night, his upcoming book, and Janette Barber read from Cassandra's Angel, which she will be soon co-producing on Broadway. DJ Jenn from Radio Disney and the newest addition to Sesame Street and fairy-in-training, Abby Caddaby, made special appearances. Over 400 children got to meet these wonderful authors and personalities to celebrate reading and raising money for a good cause.
About the Read-A-Thon: Over 1400 schools were invited to participate in the Read-A-Thon, which is being held in partnership with Smarterville's Hooked On Phonics brand. Children and their families are encouraged to sit quietly together to read, listen and learn. Young children who are not yet reading may also be involved by having a parent, sibling or caregiver read to them.
Funds raised will benefit Books for Kids and The Fund for Public Schools.
