Books for Kids and Starbucks Join in Promoting
Literacy
Starbucks Coffee Company and
Books for Kids have been working together to promote children's literacy
in underserved locations in the New York tri-state area and beyond since
2003. Starbucks/Books for Kids libraries are now serving children in these
locations:

Andrew Landi Day Care Center, Queens, NY, opened April 2005
Bishop Sexton Child Care Center, Brooklyn, NY, opened March 2005*
Project Chance, Brooklyn, NY, opened January 2005*
Nazareth Child Care Center, Jamaica Plain, MA, opened September 2004*
Manor Field Family Service, Huntington Station, NY, opened June 2004
Nyack Children's Center, Nyack, NY, opened February 2004
F.E.G.S Multi-Service Center, Hempstead, NY, opened December 2003
Wyandanch Day Care Center, Wyandanch, NY, opened September 2003
Yonkers Children's Place, Yonkers, NY, opened March 2003
*These centers partner with
Jumpstart, another Starbucks-supported literacy organization that enables
college students to mentor the children served by these centers in a yearlong
one-to-one relationship.
Starbucks and Books for Kids
also facilitated $10,000 book grants to these New York City Public Schools
in 2003:

The Duke Ellington School (PS 140Q), Queens
