Books for Kids has dedicated 5 children's literary landmarks in conjunction with Friends of Libraries USA (FOLUSA), an organization whose mission is to motivate and support groups across the country in their efforts to preserve and strengthen libraries.

Books for Kids has worked with FOLUSA to recognize these landmarks of children's literature:

  • Plaza Hotel, NY, site used by Kaye Thompson, author and illustrator Hillary Knight for their book Eloise. The book was published in 1955. Miss Thompson lived at the hotel while writing the book. Dedicated September 26, 1998.

  • Pete's Tavern, NY, the birthplace of Ludwig Bemelman's Madeline and O'Henry's Gift of the Magi. Dedicated September 25, 1999.

  • The Bank Street College, NY for Margaret Wise Brown author of Good Night Moon. Dedicated September 2000.

  • Little Red Lighthouse, Fort Washington Park, NY, for The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Bay Bridge, by author Hildegarde Hoyt Swift and illustrator Lynd Ward. Dedicated September 21, 2002.

  • The Children's Room of the Donnell Library, New York Public Library, NY, home of the original Winnie-the-Pooh and friends, the inspiration for author A.A. Milne and artist Ernest H. Shepard for their children's classics. Dedicated September 20, 2003.
